Kelp is one of the fastest growing plants in the world and because of that, it collects the most carbon dioxide. In a recent effort to cut down on the carbon in the air, Marty Odlin created Running Tide. There they would attach kelp seeds to a rope and have them grow in the ocean. The rope would be floating because of a biodegradable buoy and once that buoy has biodegraded, the rope falls to the ocean floor. On the floor, the kelp is kept under water by the pressure and all the carbon dioxide it has collected stays there with it. As of now they are studying what kind of effects doing this might have on the ocean environment and how much this will help with air pollution.
